The
Oceanic Feeling
Series

Seventy percent of our planet’s surface is water. Similarly, up to sixty percent of our bodies are made up of water. That fact alone speaks to our inextricable link to the ocean — to ensure its protection is to ensure our survival — and that begins with understanding our connection.

In 1927, Sigmund Freud, the Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis, corresponded with French writer and social critic Romain Rolland regarding the essence of religion and mysticism. Rolland, a fervent supporter of humanitarianism, contended that Freud’s recently published book, The Future of an Illusion, overlooked the core of genuine spirituality: an intimate sense of unity with the world. In his letter, Rolland described this mystical experience as the ‘oceanic feeling‘.

Immerse yourself in the colourful and vibrant world beneath the rough waves and feel the ocean with your own ‘oceanic feeling’.

All images were photographed analogue on Kodak Vision 3 500T film.
