Systems Administrator

Job Title: Systems Administrator

Department: Visible Futures Lab (VFL)

Reports to: Director, Visible Futures Lab

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM (onsite only)

Compensation: $60,000/year, Full-Time, Non-Exempt


Position Overview

The Systems Administrator supports the daily operations of the Visible Futures Lab (VFL), ensuring a safe, efficient, and collaborative environment for students, faculty, and staff. This hands-on role involves technical maintenance, administrative support, and customer service within a dynamic makerspace equipped with traditional tools and advanced digital fabrication technologies.


Key Responsibilities

Facility Management:

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring safety and organization.
  • Maintain equipment and enforce safety protocols.
  • Support special events, workshops, and projects.
  • Technical Support:
  • Perform routine maintenance on computers, software, and A/V equipment.
  • Train users on equipment, software, and safety protocols.
  • Operate and maintain tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and traditional workshop tools.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage the VFL calendar, website, and social media updates.
  • Schedule appointments and handle facility reservations.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, or related field.
  • 2+ years in a studio or educational environment.
  • Proficiency with Mac and PC systems.


Preferred:

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with CNC machines, 3D printers, and other digital fabrication tools.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience in studio settings.
  • Skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and safety protocols.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work onsite full-time.
  • Exposure to workshop equipment, requiring adherence to safety measures.
